Blood Orange & Lime Juice

Blood orange & lime juice, a simple and highly refreshing breakfast juice featuring citrus fruit, ginger and mint. Let’s celebrate citrus season as long as it’s here!

When I am feeling a bit off or low in energy I love to add a juice to my breakfast routine. It’s an excellent way to get that extra nutrition boost, since they are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. With that said, it’s also good to keep in mind they are stripped from their fibre and don’t satiate as long as their pulp-including friends, the smoothie.

This breakfast juice is super simple and has only 4 ingredients.  If you don’t have a juicer at home, no problem! You can easily make it with a hand juicer as well!

INGREDIENTS

serves 2

5 blood oranges
2 limes
1 cm ginger
6 mint leaves

INSTRUCTIONS

with a juicer

  • peel the blood oranges and limes.
  • add all ingredients to a juicer. Add the ginger and mint in between citrus parts, to extract the maximum amount of juice.
  • serve with ice (if desired) and finish off with mint

with a hand juicer

  • skin the the ginger with a spoon and finely grate with a grater
  • wash the mint and mince finely with a knife.
  • juice the blood oranges and limes with a hand juicer. Add the juice to a bowl or glass jar.
  • add the ginger and mint to the citrus mixture and set aside for one hour in the fridge so all flavours can mingle.
  • serve with ice (if desired) and finish off with mint

NOTES

  • to skin the ginger use a spoon to easily get rid of the skin. In this video Jamie Oliver shows you how. :)
  • variation: add oranges, pink grapefruit for a full range of citrus flavours
  • fresh is always best for juices but you can store it in the fridge for up to one day in an airtight (glass) jar.
